“Everything around us is evolving and so are our clothes. We looked at the way we use our smart gadgets for every issue in life. People are always prepared for what comes. The future that comes for our children looks smart and needs highly functional solutions.”
The future looks smart, and we need smarter solutions to embrace it. Rikke and Katharina’s concept for the smart world is seasonless outwear for children. With build-in implementations of heat and air; a micro-climate adaptable way of dressing is created. The collection has implementation of lights too. The light makes the children visible when it’s dark, so they are safe in traffic.
When it comes to designs for children, it is also important to make it fun. Smartly, Rikke and Katharina use thermochromics pigments for the prints in the collection, making it possible for the print to change the color according to temperature. The collection is inspired by the Hummel bumblebee in colors and shape, which gives it a playful look for children. It also maintains Hummel ́s sporty expression and silhouettes.
Rikke and Katharina see this project as an interesting opportunity to work with Hummel and technology in textiles. They discovered new expressions that technology can add to the designs. They therefore hope they in the future have the possibility to implement technology in clothes again.
Rikke studies a BA degree in Fashion Design at Via Design in Herning. She is the designer behind the Fashion Tech outfits for Hummel kids. She finds it interesting and loves to design and create outfits. She experiments with shapes, colours, fabrics, textures and now technology, which brings interesting conclusions and innovations into the designs. Interested in both fashion and science, Katharina studied first an AP degree in pattern design and now material science at Via. Therefore, she finds this project the perfect combination of creating fashion and living her passion for science. She wants to make a difference in the textile industry and help make products more sustainable in the future.
